Get Your Followers to Click Your Links

If you’ve been on Twitter for more than 5 minutes, you’ve undoubtedly seen people dropping links in their Tweets. Do you click on them? If not, why don’t you? Better yet, are people clicking on the links you Tweet out?

Here are some tips for getting those links a little more attention.
  •  Don’t be a Spammer- Try your best to be altruistic with your links. In other words, make sure they add value to the user experience of those following you. This means every link you drop shouldn’t be back to your website. Sure, you can link to your own content, but do so sparingly lest everyone think you’re a spammer.
  • Don’t Link without a Title- This should be common sense, but based on what I’ve seen, it’s not. Don’t just Tweet out links without including a title or brief description of the link. There is absolutely zero chance of me clicking on a random link.
  • Start a Discussion- One of the best things about Twitter is the ability to engage in live discussions with your friends. So, instead of just dropping a link and running, try to start a conversation around it. Give your opinion on the content you’re linking to; ask your followers for their thoughts; or if it’s controversial, stir up a little excitement. Remember, interactivity is one of the keys to social media success.
  • Look at the Trends- Relevance is another key to being successful on Twitter. That’s why I recommend using Twist or any other tool that allows you to see the latest trends on Twitter. By being in tune with the latest buzz, you can leverage your links at just the right time. Stay with the times; or get left behind.
  • Tweet when People are There- On Twitter, timing is everything. Obviously, you don’t want to Tweet when your followers are sleeping. Of course, you also don’t want your Tweets to get lost in the peak hours shuffle. So, what should you do? The best thing you can do is keep an eye on your Twitter feed to see when there are gaps in the conversation for you to jump in. Obviously, business hours are best because that’s when most people are around. So, keep your eyes peeled for openings, and be ready to take advantage.
  • Help Others Out- It’s a tired but true adage; you have to give if you want to receive. Help others out by re-tweeting their posts and by linking out to their content. It sounds silly, but people really do take notice and remember when you help them out online. It strengthens your relationship, and it will pay off when they click and re-tweet your links.
  • Get More Followers- We end this list with the most obvious tip: if you want more clicks on your Tweets, get more followers! It only makes sense that you improve the chances of people clicking on your links with the more followers you have.

Aliko Dangote Donates N150million to boost Nigeria’s Ebola response

Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote has donated N150million to help in the fight off the spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s effort to combat the spread of the deadly Ebola virus has received considerable support from businessman philanthropist, Aliko Dangote, with the announcement of N152, 956, 250.00 from Dangote Foundation for the establishment of a National Ebola Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Yaba, Lagos.
The EOC is a key part of Nigeria’s response to the outbreak of Ebola on its shores. Headed by Faisal Shuaib, a US trained public health expert with extensive international experience, the center serves as the engine room of national response, providing coordinating mechanism for prevention, surveillance, patient care, tracking, data analysis and containment of the spread of the virus.
It also facilitates coordination of partners, serves as a platform to link to the medical community across the country and also internationally, especially with countries also battling the virus in West Africa.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Foundation, Mrs Adhiambo Odaga announced this at a media briefing at the Ministry of Health, Abuja on Monday. She said the money will be available for the establishment of an Ebola emergency operation center in Lagos.

“After bilateral discussion with the honorable minister and his team, Dangote foundation has funded the establishment of the Ebola emergency operation in Lagos, that is being done through grant from the foundation of just a little over N150 million,” she said. Continue…

“The strategy that our chairman is deploying is the strategy to respond and to commend government for the effort, and to show that all Nigerians are concerned. We will continue to discuss with the ministry about what additional support can be offered

Ebola continues to spread in Nigeria

ABUJA, Nigeria - Nigeria has one more confirmed Ebola case, a nurse who was treating the Liberian-American who flew into the country with the disease and died of it last month, the health minister announced Monday.
The nurse tested positive for the Ebola virus over the weekend, Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu told reporters in Abuja, the capital. That brings the total number of confirmed Ebola cases in Nigeria to 10, including two who have already died, the Liberian-American Patrick Sawyer and another nurse. The other eight cases are being treated in isolation in Lagos. All nine Nigerians were infected through direct contact with Sawyer, said Chukwu.

Nigerian authorities said Monday that a doctor in Lagos has contracted Ebola, the second case in the sprawling megacity as the deadliest ever outbreak of the disease continues to spread fear and panic across west Africa.

The confirmation that a fourth doctor had been infected comes as fear and anger about the dead being left unburied in Liberia’s capital Monrovia brought protesters into the streets, while Sierra Leone’s president said Monday that the epidemic threatened the “very essence” of the nation.

“This new case is one of the doctors who attended to the Liberian Ebola patient who died,” Nigeria’s Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu told journalists.

He said that 70 other people believed to have come into contact with the Liberian government official were being monitored.
Nigerian health officials are working to prevent Ebola from spreading beyond those who had contact with Sawyer. Nigerian authorities have 177 primary and secondary contacts of Sawyer under surveillance, said Chukwu.
Ebola has killed 961 people in Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

Married Cops Busted in Shooting of Daughter's Boyfriend

Married police officers in Tulsa, Okla., are in jail after the husband allegedly shot and killed their daughter's boyfriend. Shannon Kepler turned himself in not long after the shooting and was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and shooting with intent to kill, while his wife, Gina Kepler, was later arrested as an accessory to murder, reports KJRH Tulsa. Both are 24-year veterans of the Tulsa Police Department and are now on paid leave pending formal charges.

In another interview with KJRH Tulsa, the couple's 18-year-old daughter, Lisa, says her parents kicked her out a week ago and dropped her off at a homeless shelter, where she met 19-year-old Jeremy Lake and the two began seeing each other.
"He was my everything," she said. They spent the week at Jeremy's family's house, which is
where her father tracked her down. "We were

Turn those selfies into cash

Mobilizr helps brands pay customers for every like, share and comment.

The Nigerian start-up is a platform for brands to pay consumers for posting pictures of themselves with a specific product. At 3 cents per like, could be easy to make it rich

"If I had a nickel for every selfie I saw in my Facebook newsfeed, I would be a pretty rich girl". And with Nigerian startup Mobilizr, those selfies could start working for their photographers, if the selfie depicts someone with a specific brand.

Ever realized when you’re watching talent reality shows how the judges are ONLY drinking out of Coca-Cola cups?  Have you ever had the experience of going to a launch party for a new company and their way of promoting their brand was by having you (the guests) upload pictures on instagram hashtagging their brand name? Allow me to make this a little more simple; Imagine if we lived in a world in which someone was willing to get you paid for the likes on your Facebook and instagram photos, and for the retweets you get on twitter…think about it. Cool, right? Then let’s introduce you to Mobilizr.

Mobilizr is a social platform that connects brands with users who can contribute to brand campaigns by posting brand-related content on the different social networks and in return, gets these “brand ambassadors” paid for good engagement!

Mobilizr launched its mobile app in beta in early May and plans to officially launch at the end of this month. The app allows brands to reward loyal customers for posting pictures of themselves with their brands on social media. This sort of advertising could turn the whole business on its head, as leveraging paying consumers who already use these products is much cheaper than launching expensive campaigns with models or celebrities.
For example, with Mobilizr, a brand could ask its supporters to post a picture of them with their product on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram or Google+ and the supporter would then earn money for every like, share, or comment. Users are paid 3 cents per engagement on their posts through PayPal, or Mobile TopUp which can really add up for all those #socialmediagurus.

To mark their exciting launch, Mobilizr is hosting a competition in search of the most engaging campaign ideas and our top three will earn a sponsorship of 10,000 engagements! Think your brand has what it takes? Check them out at mobilizr to sign up and take part in the challenge!

The app IS available via Apple store and Google play.

International outrage grows for Sudanese woman sentenced to death for apostasy

International outrage is mounting over the death sentence a Sudanese judge ordered for the pregnant wife of an American citizen — all because she refuses to renounce her Christian faith.
Meriam Ibrahim, 26, was sentenced Thursday after being convicted of apostasy. The court in Khartoum ruled that Ibrahim must give birth and nurse her baby before being executed, but must receive 100 lashes immediately after having her baby for adultery — for having relations with her Christian husband. Ibrahim, a physician and the daughter of a Christian mother and a Muslim father who abandoned the family as a child, could have spared herself death by hanging simply by renouncing her faith.

"We gave you three days to recant but you insist on not returning to Islam,"
Judge Abbas Khalifa told Ibrahim, according to AFP.
"I sentence you to be hanged to death."
But Ibrahim held firm to her beliefs.
“I was never a Muslim,” she answered. “I was raised a Christian from the start.”

Ibrahim was raised in the Christian faith by her mother, an Orthodox Christian from Ethiopia. She is married to Daniel Wani, a Christian from southern Sudan who has U.S. citizenship, according to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.
"I was never a Muslim. I was raised a Christian from the start."- Meriam Ibrahim
The cruel sentence drew condemnation from Amnesty International, the U.S. State Department and U.S. lawmakers.
“The refusal of the government of Sudan to allow religious freedom was one of the reasons for Sudan’s long civil war,”
Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., chairman of the House congressional panel that oversees U.S. policy in Africa, said in a statement.
“The U.S. and the rest of the international community must demand Sudan reverse this sentence immediately.”

Amnesty International called the sentence a “flagrant breach” of international human rights law and the U.S. State Department said it was “deeply disturbed” by the ruling, which will be appealed.
Khalifa refused to hear key testimony and ignored Sudan's constitutional provisions on freedom of worship and equality among citizens, according to Ibrahim's attorney Al-Shareef Ali al-Shareef Mohammed.

“The judge has exceeded his mandate when he ruled that Meriam’s marriage was void because her husband was out of her faith,” Mohammed told The Associated Press. “He was thinking more of Islamic Shariah laws than of the country’s laws and its constitution.”

Ibrahim and Wani married in a formal ceremony in 2011 and have an 18-month-old son, Martin, who is with her in jail. The couple operate several businesses, including a farm, south of Khartoum, the country’s capital. Wani fled to the United States as a child to escape the civil war in southern Sudan, but later returned. He is not permitted to have custody of the little boy, because the boy is considered Muslim and cannot be raised by a Christian man.

Sudan’s penal code criminalizes the conversion of Muslims into other religions, which is punishable by death. Muslim women in Sudan are further prohibited from marrying non-Muslims, although Muslim men are permitted to marry outside their faith. Children, by law, must follow their father’s religion.
Islamic Shariah laws were introduced in Sudan in the early 1980s under the rule of autocrat Jaafar Nimeiri, whose decision led to the resumption of an insurgency in the mostly animist and Christian south of Sudan. An earlier round of civil war lasted 17 years, ending in 1972. In 2011, the south seceded to become the world’s newest nation, South Sudan.
Sudanese President Omar Bashir, an Islamist who seized power during a 1989 military coup, said his county will implement Islam more strictly now that the non-Muslim south is gone. A number of Sudanese have been convicted of apostasy in recent years, but they have all escaped execution by recanting their faith. Religious thinker and politican Mahmoud Mohammed Taha — a vocal critic of Nimeiri — was sentenced to death after his conviction of apostasy and was executed at the age of 76 in 1985.

Ibrahim’s case first came to the attention of authorities in August, when members of her father’s family complained that she was born a Muslim but married a Christian man. They claimed her birth name was “Afdal” before she changed it to Meriam. The document produced by relatives to indicate she was given a Muslim name at birth was a fake, Mohammed said.
Ibrahim refused to answer the judge when he referred to her as “Afdal” during Thursday’s hearing.
Ibrahim was initially charged with having illegitimate sex last year, but she remained free pending trial. She was later charged with apostasy and jailed in February after she declared in court that Christianity was the only religion she knew.
The US-based Center for Inquiry is demanding that all charges against Ibrahim be dropped, saying the death sentence is a clear violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which forbids persecution or coercion of religious beliefs and the right to marry.
“Religious belief must never be coerced and free expression must never be punished, through threat of imprisonment, violence, or any other means,” the group wrote in a letter to Sudan’s UN ambassador, H.E. Hassan Hamid Hassan. “This cannot go unanswered, and the world will not stand for it.”
Fox News' Joshua Rhett Miller and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

South Korea ferry disaster

As it happened: South Korea ferry disaster

South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong-won has resigned amid criticism of the government's handling of the sinking of a passenger ferry.
Chung Hong-won said resignation was "the right thing to do"

He said the "cries of the families of those missing still keep me up at night". Mr Chung will stay in his post until the disaster is under control.

"The right thing for me to do is to take responsibility and resign as a person who is in charge of the cabinet," Mr Chung said in a brief televised statement.

"On behalf of the government, I apologise for many problems from the prevention of the accident to the early handling of the disaster."

The Sewol ferry with 476 people aboard - most of them students and teachers - sank off South Korea on 16 April.
Officials have confirmed 187 died, but scores are missing presumed drowned.

It is not yet clear what caused the incident - witnesses described hearing an impact before the ship listed and quickly sank

Our heart and prayers go out to the people (high school students) that are fighting for their lives and the families that lost their loved ones. #koreanferry #NjCPrays

Your prayers count....send them in
